Article in "World Tai Chi Qigong Day - L.A. Pasadena 2007" brochure:

Master Chen has over 33 years of martial arts
teaching experience. In Taiwan he has been recognized for his
accomplishments, as an international judge, has received numerous awards for
outstanding performance, and for dedicating his life to martial arts and
propagation of his particular styles.
Founder of Health Pai Da Qi Gong, in America Master
Chen started teaching internal styles of Health Pai Da Qi Gong, tai chi chuan,
xing yi chuan and bagua zhang three years ago shortly after relocating here from
Taiwan.
Senior disciple of Grandmaster Lu Hong
Bin, a
4th generation Dung Hai Chuan linage holder, Master Chen teaches high
level “push hands” and “how to relax the body and mind through exercise” in
order to maximize one’s overall potential.
The harder you work at it the better and more profound the
results.
His father, an herbal medicine
student of classic Chinese style for years in Taiwan, gave his son many
treasures of knowledge, of which was his father’s classic out of print books on
qigong, which Master Chen continues to study to day. Expected of young people then, Master
Chen served in the Taiwanese military where he trained in Korean martial art of
tae kwon do where he became physically fit and developed a deep love for martial
arts. After the military he continued to train every morning in Taipei Park and pursued the
mastery of Da Sin Ch’uan. One day he was introduced to the mysteries of
tai chi by being made to feel paralyzed through the technique of ‘covering’. He
decided he must master tai chi, so began his studies under various masters. He
later began to study under Grandmaster Lu Hong Bin. Two of his masters
appreciating his dedicated diligence for tai chi chuan practice, taught him all
their experiences in learning and practicing many different forms. Master Chen
felt rewarded knowing he was willing to “pay the patience”.
He then created a set of 7 postures he
called Pai Da Qi Gong (picking the best movements in all the forms learned
and from two masters). Emphasizing
strengthening the legs and relaxing the upper body, it teaches principles of
internal arts with no wasted movements.
Pa Da ‘Qi’ Gong, is a system of internal exercise incorporating some
martial arts skills of yinjining, qigong, tai chi chu’an and bagua zhang. Like yijinjing, it focuses on relaxing
the body thus allowing the practioner to twist muscles and joints to their
maximum. Notably, Pai Da ‘Qi’ Gong
helps build the foundation for bagua “stepping” and “one leg” power. Beginners
focus on body relaxing, practicing lightly, and then progress quickly to heavier
longer sessions. Maximum benefits
(headache relief, better digestion, eyesight, stress relief, increased energy,
joint flexibility, breathing relief from asthma, etc.) are achieved in a short
time because it’s simple to learn. Can be done in a few minutes requiring only a
small space. James
